Caffeine in coffee can expel sleepiness due to sleep deprivation

Caffeine in coffee can expel sleepiness due to sleep deprivation. However, these effects can no longer be relied upon after 3 days in a row enough sleep needs are not being met.

Their experiment, published in the journal Sleep reveal that coffee can improve psychomotor performance under conditions of sleep deprivation. But the effect is only observed in the first 2 days, not on day 3 and so on.

As said by Tracy Jill Doty, Ph.D. from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research stated "We are astonished that improved show of 200 mg of caffeine as untold as two doses per day, finish after trio nights of rest disadvantage," as described by the ScienceDaily.

According to the researchers, this finding is very important given coffee or caffeine, in general, is a stimulant which is widely used as an antidote to sleep when sleep deprived. In fact, caffeine had no effect as expected if someone continuously deprived of sleep.

Experiments to prove it was done

Experiments to prove it was done on 48 healthy adult participants. Participants are restricted to sleep no more than 5 hours a night, for a total of 5 days. Most were given a dose of caffeine intake of 200 mg two times a day, and others only got a placebo.
